Scottish Kennel Club (August) Championship Show 2016 Critique

I would like to thank The Scottish Kennel Club for inviting me to award CCs at their Championship Show and also to all the exhibitors who supported me with so many quality deerhounds.  I felt very privileged to be judging at this show which was a pleasurable and enjoyable experience.

DOGS

PD (2,0) 

1. McKinnon’s Almondbank Real Deal McNeil for Fingon.  Well proportioned, shapely 9 month old masculine puppy with neat ears.  Strong neck, good depth of chest and nice rise over loin.  Low set hocks.  Moved well when settled.  I look forward to seeing him progress.  BP 

2. McIntyre’s Almondbank What a Boy Mccoy.  A well grown 9 month old puppy with handsome head, however preferred the topline of (1).  Good depth and width throughout.  Low set hocks.  Harsh coat.  Moved well.

JD (2,2)

YD (2,0) 

1. Constantine’s Kaleginy The Forester.  Extremely well proportioned, young dog with strong bone.  Lovely expression with dark eye and neat ears.  Low hocks.  Well knuckled feet.  Nice harsh coat.  Movement was easy and active.  Well presented. 

2. Finlayson-Brown’s Stainlonan Scapa Flow.  Light grey, shapely, young dog with nice depth of chest, good topline and fallaway.  Neat ear and harsh coat.

PGD (1,0) 

1. Sharp’s Killoeter Skye.  Nicely proportioned, harsh coated 2 year old dog with strong bone.  Masculine head with lovely expression and dark eye.  Good shoulder, plenty of depth of chest and good width across hindquarters.  Well knuckled feet.  Moved well.

LD (4,1) 

1. Peach’s Kilbourne Max.  Very handsome, well balanced, beautifully proportioned young dog with good bone.  Lovely expression with super dark eye and neat ear.  Strong neck.  Well knuckled feet.  Nice harsh coat.  Movement was easy and active.  Well presented.  RCC 

2. Cunningham’s Teviotdale Banner Blue.  Strong, well boned, masculine dog with excellent depth of chest, good fallaway and width across hindquarters.  Nice harsh coat.  Moved well. 

3. Sharp’s Rosslyn Qonnor.

OD (5,0)  A very close decision in a very strong class of quality exhibits. 

1. Finnett & Heathcote’s Ch Hyndsight Desperado.  A most handsome, well proportioned masculine dog with strong bone.  Lovely head with neat ear and dark eye.  Plenty of depth of chest with excellent width throughout.  Good bend of stifle and low set hocks.  Well knuckled feet.  Nice harsh coat.  Movement was active and easy.  Well presented.  CC  BOB RBIG

 2. Taylor’s Kilbourne Usher to Ormanstar.  Correctly proportioned, very shapely dog with good bone.  Typical head with strong neck leading into excellent front and deep chest.  Nice rise over loin and good fallaway.  Moved well.

JB (2,0)  A very strong class. 

1. Peach’s Blixten Star to Kilbourne (Imp).  Shapely, very promising young bitch with good bone.  Beautiful head and soft expression.  Good reach of neck leading into excellent front, nice depth of chest and good width overall nice rise over loin.  Well knuckled feet.  Harsh coat.  Moved freely and easily. 

2. Taylor’s Minerva Mcgonagall of Ormanstar.  Another promising, very feminine young bitch with pleasing head.  Very shapely with good depth of chest and width throughout.  Good bend of stifle and low set hocks.  Movement was easy and active.

YB (2,1) 

1. Adams’ Stranwith Nia for Zandahar.  Well balanced young bitch with pleasing outline.  Feminine head, with dark eye.  Strong neck flowing into good shoulder.  Nice rise over loin and good fallaway.  Well knuckled feet.  Nice harsh coat.  Moved well.

PGB (5,2) 

1. Robertson’s Chuilinn Windflower.  A light grey, well boned bitch with plenty of depth of chest and good width throughout.  Good width across thigh and low set hocks.  Harsh coat. 

2. Lindsay’s Celticmoon Shadow Magic at Silverthyme NAF.  Harsh coated, feminine bitch with lovely head and neat ear.  Nice depth of chest and good fallaway but I preferred the overall width and depth of (1). 

3. Heap’s Leoch Juniper Of Fintalloch.

LB (7,0)  A very close decision in a class of quality exhibits. 

1. Peach’s Kilbourne Zoe.  This 2 year old feminine bitch of excellent construction caught my attention immediately.  Lovely shapely outline with good bone and substance.  Beautiful, feminine head with strong neck flowing into well laid shoulder.  Plenty of depth and width throughout with strong hindquarters.  Low set hocks and well knuckled feet.  Harsh coat.  Movement was active and easy.  Well presented.  CC 

2. Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight Because The Night.  Feminine, very shapely and well proportioned bitch with lovely head and expression.  Well boned, plenty of depth of chest and good width throughout with balanced angulation which showed on movement which was active and true.  Lovely harsh coat.  Well presented.  RCC

3. Swanson’s Cotherstone Brogue of Altimarlach.

OB (4,1)  Another very strong class. 

1. Robertson’s Chuilinn Whisper.  Well boned bitch with feminine head and soft expression.  Dark eye and neat ear.  Strong neck leading into good shoulder.  Excellent depth of chest, strong hindquarters with good fallaway.  Low set hocks.  Well knuckled feet.  Nice harsh coat.  Moved well. 

2. Constantine’s Gentiehun Adelaide of Kaleginy Sh.CM.  A very shapely, feminine bitch with good bone.  Lovely head, dark eye and neat ear.  Strong neck.  Plenty of depth of chest, nice rise over loin and good width throughout.  Nice harsh coat.  Moved well. 

3. Smart’s Kessoch Marsco of Greystiel.

VB (1,0) 

1. Robertson’s Chuilinn Afra.  Well boned, feminine 9 year old bitch with gentle expression and dark eye.  Strong neck leading into good lay of shoulder.  Great depth of chest and good width overall.  Nice fallaway, good bend of stifle and low set hocks.  Harsh coat.  Well presented.  Moved actively and freely.
